Most homes in this country have the older style water heaters, and they are one of the worst in the event of getting water damage as these old heaters will build up a lot of pressure, which can blow off the top of their tank causing water to go everywhere. When this happens, a lot of the time you can't see where all of the water goes, so you leave open places for the damage to go and set in.

If this should happen, you need to turn the water off as soon as possible. It is now required by law to have shut-off valves on all water pipes in the home so that if you have a break in a water line, you can shut it off at the source instead of having to go to the main. It not only will save you time, but it might also save you from having to deal with severe damage.

If your home doesn't have these shut-offs in place and you know how to install them yourself, you would be further ahead to put them in. If you don't all you need to do is call your local plumber to have him install them. You will need to have one installed on your bathtub, the sinks in your bathroom and kitchen, and behind your refrigerator if it has a built-in icemaker.

Newer homes have the tank-less water heaters, but if you were to ask them which one that they liked best, you might be surprised to find out that it might be a toss-up. I've never even seen one, but I've heard a lot of people talk about them, and most of them don't like them because they say that they really don't save you money on your water or heating bills.

With all of our bills going up and people having to worry about how they are going to pay for them, we really need to find ways to save us money every month so that we can be able to pay all of our bills and not have to worry so much about having to go without enough to eat so that we can pay those bills. In most states, the utility companies have gotten together to give you a credit on your electric bill when you buy a new water heater from the water company, but you might want to check this credit out first to make sure that this credit is still given.
