What to Consider When You buy a Walk-in Bathtub

If you need a new tub, and you have mobility problems, try giving a walk-in bathtub a try. There are lots of reasons one of these is beneficial to you, especially if your bathroom is small or you have mobility issues. There are lots of different models available, and that may make choosing one that fits you best difficult. To make the best decision, there are several things you should consider before you choose.

Price

With walk-in bathtubs, one of your main considerations will be the price of the one you choose. A walk in bathtub may be very beneficial to you, especially if you have a small bathroom or if you have mobility issues. Comparison-shop online, and find the best bathtub for the most reasonable price available. For the best decision, take into account these several things before you choose one.

The walk in bathtub you choose should be certified

Certification is important when it comes to walk-in bathtubs. It's important that the walk-in bathtub you choose be certified. For the United States, that means it has to meet bathtub certifications in general. Size matters

There are lots of different walk-in bathtub models to choose from, and before you choose one, make sure you measure the space it's going to go into. If the bathroom you're putting it into is particularly small, you can choose a space saver model, which is a particularly important consideration. A larger model is fine as long as your bathroom can handle it. Make sure as well that your water heater has the volume necessary to support water volume in some of the larger tubs, since you won't want to be stuck taking cold baths. If the water heater you have can't handle a larger tub and you don't want to replace it, choose a smaller model of bathtub.

"Step in" height Because walk-in bathtubs are used most often by those who have mobility issues and can't get into regular bathtubs easily, step height is going to matter. Walk-in bathtubs usually have a small step that you are going to have to be able to master to get into it. However, be careful of the height of that step. Some models have significantly high step, from 6 to 7 inches high. That means you could have significant problems getting into that tub, especially, again, if you have mobility issue. In that case, you should choose a model with a much smaller step, about two inches, so that you'll easily be able to get into it.

These are just a few things to keep in mind when it comes to choosing your walk-in bathtub from among the many models available. Consider options and features, too, if they're something you're going to want. For example, some models come with available and optional hydro or air massage, for even more comfort and enjoyment.
